Sangria: Nectar of the Gods

One of my favorite things about the warmer months is adult summer beverages, especially sangria.  There’s something about an ice cold glass of fruity, cinnamony deliciousness that really hits the spot on a hot day.  Normally I’d post a cocktail recipe a little closer to the weekend, but the longer your sangria marinates, the better (so get started early!).

1 (750 ml) bottle dry red wine*
1/2 cup brandy
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
1/3 cup lemonade
1/3 cup orange juice
1/2 cup triple sec
1 peach, sliced
1 lime, sliced
1 orange, sliced
1/4 cup white sugar
2 teaspoons of cinnamon

Mix the wine, brandy, lemon juice, lemonade, orange juice, triple sec, sugar and cinnamon in a large pitcher. Float the fruit slices and refrigerate overnight (Note: Do NOT float citrus slices overnight.  The result will be bitter sangria – yuck!  Instead, toss that lime and orange in once you’re ready to serve).

*Thrift Tip: Trader Joe’s $2.99 bottles work great for this recipe!  I personally like using the Shiraz.

Feel free to experiment with the amount of sugar, cinnamon, and the fruit types.  Everybody likes theirs a little different, so do what you wanna do!
